Danish 
BenchesSummer 2018
Experiments in woodworking, weaving, and metalworking in collaboration with Tampa woodworking studio. Danish style bench frames woven over the 2019 summer break. 
DELIVERABLES
1. Maple bench with cotton cord weave, box pattern
2. Steel bench with cotton cord weave, X pattern
3. Brown oak with Danish cord weave, 2x2 interwoven pattern

CONTRIBUTION
Self-directed project; designed bench frame, wove patterns, assisted metalworking.
PROCESS
Taking inspiration from classic Danish and Shaker furniture design, I designed a custom castle joint. The joint proved to be difficult on limited studio equipment and a basic knowledge of woodworking, but eventually combining a dado stack with hand chiseling created the desired result. Steel and wooden frames were woven with cotton and paper cord in varying patterns.
